about

Brett Underwood has done more for underdog music than he'd ever let on.

As a former longtime community radio programmer and personality for The No Show, he challenged expectations while broadcasting all manner of genre-defying sonics; experimental, outsider, and downright odd were just his starting points. As a career booker and promoter, he filled thousands of slots with acts from most every corner of any imaginable style. As a music enthusiast, he championed every artist that he recognized passion in, regardless of their scene or popularity. As a poet and writer, he strings fragmented observations together through wordplay and the occasional phonics of absurdity. As a bartender, he's an impeccable balance of unimposing stoicism and genuine humor and warmth.

For all of these traits and more, Brett has been a giant gift to the local arts and music communities, but as he operates mostly behind the scenes and in the crowds, there's hardly been a chance to really give him the praise he deserves.

The ongoing pandemic has been a huge blow to so many livelihoods, including his. As an attempt to just barely return a fraction of the immeasurable favor he's done for this city for decades, we got together in admiration for Brett and made this collection as a gesture of gratitude for the many ways he's supported and empowered the arts.

Brett, thanks for everything you've done for us. We love you and can't wait to see you at shows again.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT COLLECTION GO TO BRETT LARS UNDERWOOD. HE ALSO HAS TWO PUBLICATIONS AVAILABLE, MUSH AND MUSHARONA, THAT CURIOUS SUPPORTERS SHOULD TRACK DOWN FROM LOCAL BOOKSELLERS OR DIRECTLY FROM THE AUTHOR.
